Northeastern University is a national leader in cooperative education in which students alternate between academic study and work experiences. The College of Computer & Information Science (CCIS) is seeking two Assistant Co-op Education Coordinators (co-op coordinator) to work with our undergraduate population. One position will fill a vacancy and the other is a new position due to growth in the college.
This position is a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position, working with students in the College of Computer and Information Science. You will join a team of 10 highly motivated, professional, collaborative individuals who provide an outstanding cooperative education program to Computer and Information Science students. Specific responsibilities include:

Student Preparation.
The Assistant Cooperative Education Coordinator is responsible to develop and deliver effective teaching and counseling programs that focus on educating students about careers, and enabling students to develop strategies to be successful in today’s global business environment. The co-op coordinator will prepare students for the co-op assignment, maintain contact with students during the assignment, and discuss the assignment upon student’s return to the University. Coordinators work with students in many venues including one-on-one, workshops and in the classroom. Coordinators work with students during all aspects of co-op, including preparing for the co-op, assisting with issues and periodic check-in while on-the-job, and reflection and goal setting after the co-op has ended. Coordinators work with students teaching interviewing skills, resume writing, communication skills, professional behavior, transitioning to the workplace, ethics, and other relevant learning objectives.

Employer Relations/Job Development.
The Assistant Cooperative Education Coordinator is expected to develop partnerships with employers by working with executive, supervisory and human resources contacts. He/she will develop new and maintain ongoing co-op positions and will develop and maintain an understanding of industry/field, employers, and positions. Coordinators are expected to conduct site visits to new and existing employers and to implement strategies to develop new and enhanced employer connections. Experience with job development, developing client relationships and ability to promote cooperative education are critical for this position.

Integrated Learning.
The Assistant Cooperative Education Coordinator is expected to support the goals and initiatives of the College of Computer and Information Science. He/she will collaborate with college faculty, administration and other co-op coordinators to help students integrate their co-op and academic experiences. Coordinators will also share knowledge of industry with academic faculty to integrate work-based learning with curriculum-based learning.


Master’s degree required and a minimum of three years in high tech industry/higher education work experience preferred. Experience with international students desirable. Knowledge of cooperative education is a plus and excellent written and oral communication skills expected. Interest in the field of technology is required. Experience working with a diverse staff/student population, and a demonstrated commitment to achieving and maintaining diversity in the workplace required. He/she must have personal transportation and a valid driver’s license, as travel to visit students and employers is required.
