Responsibilities

The Department of Art + Design at Northeastern University seeks an Assistant Teaching Professor of Design beginning Fall 2017. The ideal candidate will have an excellent teaching record and a body of work in design that exhibits a broad understanding of contemporary graphic and information design practice and theory. Candidate should be well-versed in teaching core undergraduate graphic design courses such as systems, typography, and identity design, and the candidate will be engaged in helping students conceptualize their work in civic and community-based initiatives. The successful candidate is expected to be a refined and skilled practitioner with experience mentoring students on collaborating across disciplines as well as designing and producing high quality work for clients.

Responsibilities
• Teach five courses per year in graphic design and visual communication
• Serve department and design program needs
• Serve as Faculty Advisor for Scout, Northeastern University’s student-led design studio. Scout is a catalyst for student experiential learning and was founded by students with the goals of strengthening the design community at Northeastern and making students better designers through significant compensated projects with actual clients within the Northeastern community

Centered in the cultural hub of Boston and located within an R1 research university renowned for its embrace of experiential learning, the Department of Art + Design has expanded rapidly in the last five years and now encompasses 34 full time faculty, over 500 undergraduate majors, and nearly 70 graduate students in fast-growing Master’s programs. The successful candidate will consolidate and build on these successes just as Northeastern embarks on a new long-range plan.

Qualifications

MFA in Design or related field in hand by Fall 2017. Successful teaching experience at the college level is desirable.
