Responsibilities

The Department of Applied Psychology at Northeastern University is offering a one year, full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate position with the possibility of renewal for an additional year; the appointment generally does not extend beyond two years. Our interdisciplinary research group focuses on reducing risky health behaviors among under-served urban, immigrant populations. The Research Associate will play a leadership role in the coordination of an on-going project funded by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (R01AA021136). The goal of the project is to test the efficacy of behavioral counseling to reduce hazardous drinking and related harms among Spanish-Speakers, as well as to better understand how social stressors affect peoples’ drinking behavior. The position focus will be to: primarily, ensure that ongoing research is completed; perform basic and/or applied research of a limited scope, primarily using existing theories and methods; assist the Principle Investigator (PI) in the interpretation and publication of results and grant preparations; maintain integrity of laboratory all grant related materials and files; may assist the PI in exercising functional supervision over supporting research staff; the candidate may also assist the PI with ongoing supervision and daily administrative tasks relevant to grant management. The candidate will also be expected to: work closely with research faculty and staff, as well as outside collaborators; collaborate and help lead efforts on the analysis of clinical data. There are publication opportunities and the possibility for collaboration on future related research involving substance abuse treatment approaches.

Qualifications

Must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in Psychology, Public Health, or related field and experience in managing and coordinating clinical trials research; must be able to undertake substantially full-time research or scholarship; work under the supervision of a senior scholar; experience with SPSS statistical analysis. Bilingual (Spanish) desired, but not required.
