Responsibilities

The office of University Events with a staff of nine is responsible for coordinating and supporting the production of 100 high impact events annually. These events are intended to enhance Northeastern’ s distinguished reputation and advance the university’s highest level priorities to influential constituents like donors, alumni, parents, and friends, while connecting closely with the internal community of faculty and staff. University Events provides protocol expertise while offering centralized quality standards for event production and management.

Reporting to the Executive Director and managing a staff of three, the Director-Events & Exhibit Design & Production Management works collaboratively with the Director of Content and Program Development and the entire University Events team to produce high level events that communicate the University and client’s message, concept and image to guests/attendees. Using their creativity, organizational and production skills the producer will create and execute experiences that have lasting impact.

The Director-Events & Exhibit Design is a multi-faceted position, primarily responsible for the design and production and execution of live university events. The portfolio includes events produced for the University Advancement division, Office of the President, Office of the Board of Trustees, and Human Resources Management, as well as a host of other clients from around the university. The team’s work includes receptions, dinners, breakfasts, meetings, conferences, symposiums, multimedia events and presidential entertaining. These events occur locally, domestically and internationally.

This position is responsible for ensuring that the multitude of logistical details required to produce, successful, high quality, special events that are aesthetically engaging and provide interactive experiences are flawlessly executed. The portfolio includes conferences, symposia, multimedia events and Presidential events. These events occur locally, domestically and internationally.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 7 to 10years of event design and production experience
• Proven working knowledge and experience in event design and production management, audiovisual, theatrical technologies and the disciplines of stagecraft; must have a visual portfolio of work
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and professional appearance and wardrobe
• Working knowledge of video projection and display systems including projectors, screens, flat panel and LED display systems
• Experience working with lighting designers to select and implement equipment for live corporate events
• Experience designing or working with designers to create custom scenery and integrated lighting and projection systems including hard wall scenery, flexible and fabric elements, and Gobo design and implementation
• Experience working with pipe and drape, banner, and other environmental elements
• Knowledge of other scenic and display elements for the enhancement of live presentations
• Experience using PowerPoint, Keynote, Prezi, and other presentation graphic software, hardware and tools to create presentations
• Strong computer skills on both Macintosh and PC operating systems and file formats and with software that includes Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Design software like CAD or other design and space planning software
• Ability to work flexible work hours, including occasional nights and weekends
• Ability to lead teams and give and receive direction
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Night and weekend work
• Occasional domestic and international travel may be required
