Responsibilities

The Assistant Director of International Student Support and Programming is a full-time member of the Office of Global Services reporting to the Director of International Student Support and Programming. The Assistant Director will play an essential role in developing and implementing pre-arrival orientation and acculturation program content to ensure the successful transition and retention of international undergraduate and graduate students, scholars and interns. The incumbent will also be responsible for co-coordinating international student program initiatives such as International Education Week (IEW), and OGS Carnevale- a month of cultural programming. The Assistant Director will plan events and support intercultural training to relevant departments, will provide advising and direction to student organizations, whose mission and programming is focused on international cultures. The Assistant Director will develop, under the supervision of the Director and in conjunction with various departments on campus, programs that outreach to appropriate international constituencies to help achieve institutional goals. Furthermore, this position will continue to develop and strengthen programming partnerships with campus units such as Center for Student Involvement, Cultural Centers, Office of Interdisciplinary Study Programs, Co-op Connections, Graduate Schools, and International Co-op Programs to enhance international students’ co-curricular experience.

The Assistant Director will also assist in developing outreach and support programs for sub-populations of international students as directed by the Dean and/or the Director for International Student Support and Programming. The Assistant Director must be a highly collaborative individual who can work in a fast-paced environment that requires sophisticated project management, social media and event planning skills.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education, International Affairs, College Student Personnel or similar degree required in addition to having 3 – 5 years experience working in international student support programs, student activities, student affairs or related field. Knowledge of international student acculturation and familiarity with immigration and compliance issue preferred. Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population on a fast-paced, urban campus a must. An existing knowledge of Northeastern and its unique educational program is desired.
