Responsibilities

Performs basic or applied research of a limited scope, primarily using existing theories and methods. Assists the supervisor in the interpretation and publication of results and grants. Maintains the laboratory and may exercise functional supervision over supporting research staff. Primary responsibility is ensuring that the research is complete. The initial appointment is for one year with the possibility of a second year based on performance metrics. This position generally does not extend beyond two years.

Northeastern University Center for Renewable Energy Technology (NUCRET) is looking for a postdoctoral research associate for a new grant-funded project related to research and development of materials for novel electrochemical interfaces. Specifically, this project focuses on generating new class of non-noble metal cathode catalysts for medium temperature polymer membrane fuel cells (typically phosphoric acid imbibed polymer membranes such as polybenzaimidazole, or PBI). Research will include de novo chemical synthesis, electrochemical characterization including RDE and fuel cell polarization measurements, cell design and fabrication, structural characterization and electrochemical research using broad range of techniques and close interactions with collaborators and industry.

Qualifications

Must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in an appropriate area of electrochemistry, chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or allied disciplines; be able to undertake substantially full-time research; work under the supervision of a senior scholar.

Fuel cell and electrochemistry background and experience is a must. Knowledge and experience with XAS, XANES, EXAFS methods is a plus. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. The candidate is expected to be highly creative and self-motivated in the research and is capable of working in a collaborative environment.
