The College of Computer and Information Science is seeking a Special Assistant to the Dean to support the Dean in a growing and dynamic College. During the past several years, the faculty and staff have doubled as the enrollments continue to rise at the Undergraduate, Masters and PhD program. The Special Assistant to the Dean works closely with the Dean, Associate Deans, and senior staff on high-level administrative projects. The Dean is required to travel at least 50% of the time to engage with employers/alumni and friends to reach the college’s fundraising goal. We are seeking a dynamic individual who can take the lead in assisting the Dean in reaching her goals. The Special Assistant to the Dean will execute a variety of time-sensitive and complex responsibilities including interfacing with University leaders, alumni, and donors, community members on administrative, substantive and confidential matters. Responsibilities include collaborating with the CCIS Development and Marketing/Events teams on various advancement initiatives, liaise with high-level industry executives on hosting meetings, events, and other activities; prepare regular briefings for the Dean, Associate Deans, and senior staff; draft detailed and complex correspondence, recommendation letters and reports for the dean; conduct research for special projects; organize materials for distribution at meetings and prepare and distribute meeting notes; supervise the Executive Assistant to the Dean, including overseeing their management of the calendar and expense reports of the Dean.

The Special Assistant to the Dean is responsible for developing effective systems to manage the Dean’s administrative needs and to ensure she has administrative help at all times. S/He will provide planning and oversight to ensure that the Dean’s time is effectively allocated and that information is presented to advance the priorities of the College agenda. S/he must be able to communicate professionally and effectively on behalf of the Dean and will manage relations with key constituents, frequently communicating with Associate Deans and Development staff. He/she will also attending meetings as needed and potentially in the Dean’s absence.


Master’s degree with a minimum of 8 – 10 years of progressively responsible executive support experience required, preferably in higher education or executive setting. Prior supervisory experience preferred. Excellent communication and critical thinking skills, project management ability and attention to detail required. Must have excellent computer skills including proficiency in MS Office Suite, presentation, Outlook email, spreadsheet and database software. Individual must have strong organizational, communication (both oral and written), and interpersonal skills. Must be detail-oriented, able to understand complex material to communicate effectively and must be able to work with confidential information and prioritize tasks and demands. Must be able to take initiative and follow through on tasks independently. Must be an ask-once person. Must possess a thorough knowledge of professional office procedures, good judgment, discretion and problem solving skills.
