Reporting to the Director of Procurement Services, the Contract Manager is responsible for carrying out (A) Strategic Sourcing functions and (B) Purchasing Agent duties. Strategic Sourcing functions will include the development and facilitation of supplier solicitations, the contracting process, and all other related activities. Purchasing agent duties will include primarily the effective processing of purchase requisitions and purchase orders across select commodity areas. In addition, the S&P Manager will lead any contract management activities not supported by other departments. The S&P Manger will also serve as the lead for one of the department’s Procurement Programs for managing key spend areas at the University. Finally, the S&P Manager will work directly with the Associate Director and/or Director on a number of department initiatives and business objectives.


• Minimum Education:
o Bachelor’s degree is required.
o Professional certification is desirable but not required.
• Minimum Work Experience:
o 4 to 6 years of relevant sourcing and procurement experience
o Familiarity working within a corporate, government, or higher education environment.
• Sourcing & Procurement Experience:
o Broad understanding and knowledge of how businesses operates and the role and function of supply chain mgmt.
o Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the principles, practices and implementation of strategic sourcing and contracting.
o Knowledge and understanding of purchasing agent responsibilities across the areas of purchase requisition and purchase order processing.
o Experience implementing negotiation strategies at appropriate spend levels, contract size, and contexts.
o Demonstrated experience with employing data analytics to measure and manage supplier spend, cost savings, and other supplier related quantitative information.
• Managerial Skills Required:
o Must be able to work independently when not being directly supervised
o Must have business manager appropriate communication abilities including excellence in written and oral skills required.
o Must be able to work and communicate with individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds and organizational levels. This includes being effective in a variety of formal presentation settings: one-on-one, small and large groups, with peers, direct reports, and management.
o Must be a strong listener and must be able to read situations quickly, attempt to problem solve, and take the appropriate next steps.
o Must have strong customer service skills as well as the ability to coordinate and work with others to accomplish assigned tasks. Must work collaboratively with stakeholders to incorporate their ideas, adapt to their needs, and to form consensus in appropriate situations.
• Behavioral Characteristics Desired :
o Must be a self-starter and be able to maintain a high-level of productivity
o Must be detailed oriented with strong organizational skills
o Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Computer Skills Desired:
o Proficient in the Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access
o Reasonable grasp of how eProcurement & eSourcing software works
o Knowledge of Banner ERP Financials is desirable
