Responsibilities

This position will manage overall employment-based services (Co-op, AT/OPT) in the Office of Global Services for the international student, student intern and scholar population. S/he will guide the development of business processes aimed at streamlining and render more effective CPT and AT/OPT services.

The Associate Director – OGS Employment Services will:
- Participate in strategic planning, setting goals and objectives for the OGS Employment team
- Design, develop, and implement programs and policies to meet OGS and institutional goals
- Oversee I-9 and E-verify processing for international non-students and scholars’ hires
- Provide advising services to J-1 international scholars and students sponsored by Northeastern and by domestic and international governmental agencies
- Issue DS-2019 and advise incoming scholars on the process of acquiring the proper J-1 EV category
- Offer guidance regarding issues specific to exchange visitors’ funding, health insurance and other regulatory requirements
- Complete J-1 annual reports and re-designation process within due timeline
- Serve as Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for J-1 students and scholars
- Keep track of No Show records and other SEVIS RTI alerts
- Monitor and execute reportable events and activities such as Orientation/Validation, Site of activity addition, Out of country, temporary employment and other applicable SEVIS events and reporting
- Ensure that OGS maintains policies and procedures that are up to date with current federal regulations in the area of employment and training as administered by the Department of State and ICE/SEVP
- Support the OGS in administrative/advising duties including Walk in Advising and other tasks
- Collaborate with OGS managers, advisors and staff to develop, design, and implement programs and infrastructures needed to support and enrich the international students’ experience at Northeastern
- Support OGS Dean and Director in all relevant administrative functions such as Search Committee participation, presentations, hiring and meetings

Qualifications

A minimum of a Master’s Degree is required in a field related to international education or compliance. Must be eligible to serve as ARO and DSO. Must possess superior interpersonal and intercultural communication skills, as well as proven experience in the field of international exchange visitors’ programs. A minimum of five years of professional experience in the field of higher education, advising J-1 Exchange Visitors, and knowledge of current regulations pertaining to employment (CPT, OPT, AT) and I-9 procedures is required. Experience in management of functional units will be a strong point. Fluency in a second or third language would be beneficial and candidates with study or work abroad experience preferred. Must possess excellent and proven organizational and managerial abilities and experience.

This position requires a highly specialized range of skills and experience. It requires expertise in governmental regulations (including immigration and SEVIS), understanding of Department of State missions and goals, cross-cultural student and scholar advising and communication, sponsored agency regulations, and ability to communicate effectively with internal departments and labs.
