Responsibilities

Perform a wide variety of duties to successfully complete assigned HVAC trade tasks and, in the absence of the Supervisor, assist in supervising technicians to ensure the timely, accurate completion of assigned jobs.

Assist Supervisor with training technicians and ensuring adherence to safety standards. Prioritize and assign work orders to technicians. Direct work flow and ensure all work is completed in a timely and accurate fashion. Assist in maintaining a positive working environment. Notify Supervisor of concerns related to employee morale. Assist supervisor in ordering materials, maintaining overtime schedules and absentee/vacation records.

Perform a variety of mechanical duties to complete assigned tasks in a timely and accurate manner. Maintain work area and equipment in a clean, safe and orderly condition. Follow prescribed university safety rules and regulations. Maintain necessary files and records; prepare periodic reports as directed. Ability to talk to and resolve worker conflicts.

Position will require working in a non-HVAC capacity when necessary, as well as, but not limited to responding to overtime and emergency call-ins as required or directed to ensure proper plant operations. Must also be willing to act as backup on emergency call-in list and, as necessary, to assist other HVAC personnel on overtime projects.

Qualifications

Appropriate MA Journeyman’s License for Refrigeration and Air Conditioning and a minimum of three to five years of work experience is required. Universal Refrigeration Certificate required. Must be skilled in troubleshooting and using the tools and equipment associated with air conditioning and refrigeration areas. Must be able to lift up to a minimum of 50 lbs. and transport piping and equipment in excess of 200 lbs. with others. May use chain falls and come-alongs for heavier lifting. Must be able to push and pull heavy loads as required. Must be able to stoop and bend for long periods of time; work on hands and knees and other awkward positions for extended periods; routinely walk to and from various buildings carrying tools, equipment and other essentials to the job site. Must be able to work alone and climb multiple sets of stairs, work off ladders, staging, lifts, etc

Ability to provide leadership and direction to the mechanical trade. Must be able to work overtime as required. Must have a valid MA Driver’s License. This position is 40 hours a week. Skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel. Knowledge and understanding of building automation control systems.
