The Subaward Manager & Award Administrator (SM&AA) manages the establishment of subaawards and serves as the post-award contact within the Office of Research Administration and Finance (ORAF) for the faculty, ORAF Grant Officers, sponsors and subrecipients.

Responsibilities include: Drafting, negotiating and administering subawards flowing down from a wide range of funding sources including, federal, state, local government agencies and industry sponsors. Serves as the point of contact for all subaward related issues. Acts as liaison for Principal Investigators by facilitating communications with subrecipients and sponsors.

This position will advise and assist researchers and administrative personnel on subaward oversight, management and responsibilities. Ensure that subawards are in compliance with sponsor guidelines and provide ongoing budget and expense analysis, invoice processing, financial reporting, and re-budgeting.

Award administration: working with the Director of Award Administration, the Award Administration and Subaward Manager will review new and current awards for compliance requirements, coordinate compliance as needed and ensure timely and accurate set up of award records. Ensure the University maintains complete and accurate documentation and back up for awards.

Works with the Director of Award Administration to create robust processes and procedures for management of award obligations, including ongoing review of both internal awards as well as subawards made to external parties. In addition, provide insight and feedback for the development of systems, reports and other tools for Research Administration in support of the larger University research community.

Work with the University community to ensure sponsor requirements are met, including providing clarification as to sponsor and University policies from the point of award acceptance through the closeout of awards.


Six to eight years pre-award and.or post-award experience in an academic or research setting preferred. Bachelor’s degree required or commensurate combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of government grant regulations, agency policies and University policies and procedures.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required. Must effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment. Must have a strong commitment to providing professional, timely, and courteous service to the University research community.
