The Interdisciplinary Affective Science Lab (IASLab) in the Department of Psychology at Northeastern University and the Departments of Psychiatry and Radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital (Harvard Medical School), the Lifespan Emotional Development Lab in the Department of Psychology at Northeastern University, and the Dickerson Neuroimaging Lab in the Department of Neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital (Harvard Medical School) are seeking one full time Post-Doctoral Research Fellow for an NIH-funded project studying imaging biomarkers of affect, cognition, and motivation that act to protect memory in normal aging and in those who are at risk for Alzheimer’s Disease.

This project employs MRI and PET scans along with affective and motivational tasks, neuropsychological measures of cognitive function, and various experimental measures of memory and cognitive function, to investigate the structural, functional, and molecular circuit dynamics in cognitively normal older adults with or without brain imaging markers of Alzheimer’s disease. There will be opportunities to study how affective and motivational factors influence memory and health using both basic and pathophysiological systems neuroscience approaches.

The IASLab and the Dickerson Neuroimaging Laboratory are both affiliated with the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging, located in the incredible scientific and translational environment of the MGH/HMS Charlestown Navy Yard campus. Along with the Lifespan Emotional Development Lab, we constitute a multidisciplinary team conducting basic, translational, and clinical research with healthy and neuropsychiatric human populations, using neuroimaging, behavioral and clinical methods.

You will work directly with lab directors (Lisa Feldman Barrett, PhD and Karen Quigley, PhD, of the IASLab, Derek Isaacowitz, PhD, of the Lifespan Emotional Development Lab, and Brad Dickerson, MD, of the Dickerson Neuroimaging Lab) as well as with an array of collaborators and co-investigators whose expertise range across psychology, psychophysiology, neuroscience, and engineering. There are ample opportunities to lead high impact publications, as well as to learn cutting-edge simultaneous PET-fMRI methods and computational modeling involving dynamic systems modeling, machine learning and graph theory. Mentorship will be provided to facilitate the transition to an independent research career.

This is a 2 to 5 year term position with opportunities for training in human systems neuroscience, translational/clinical applications and diverse integrated imaging and brain mapping methodologies. 1. Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Psychology, Engineering or a related field.2. Strong proficiency in various neuroimaging analysis platforms, multivariate modeling strategies and connectivity toolboxes.
3. Established quantitative and statistical skills, including programming and comfort with diverse computing environments.
4. Background in systems/cognitive neuroscience, neuroanatomy and psychological/psychophysiological constructs.
5. A demonstrated capacity to produce first author publications.
6. Excellent writing skills and a strong motivation to publish.
Additional Qualifications:
1. Experience with graph theory, network analysis, and/or machine learning modeling confer a significant advantage.

Additional Information

This appointment is funded by a grant received from an outside source. The duration of this position is contingent upon the continued availability of funding from this grant at it current financial level.
