Responsibilities

The Division of Information Technology Services is currently seeking a talented individual to fill the role of Client Systems Engineer. The Client Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, creating and maintaining automated installations for Northeastern University’s managed client environments. This position uses current technologies from Microsoft and Apple, and other vendors, to create application software packages and sequences for Microsoft Windows and Apple operating systems, that can be deployed and/or streamed to all or part of the University population as required. This individual is required to troubleshoot installation issues of the application packages, and develop best practices around software packaging, application deployment, and custom development in support of the application packages. The individual is also responsible for developing and managing a robust testing methodology. In addition the individual works closely with the service desk on troubleshooting enterprise application issues and utilizing Service-Now for root cause analysis, and tracking. The individual is also responsible for clearly defining all processes surrounding the application packaging process within the knowledge base.

To ensure that essential services are provided to the university community, the employee will be required to work outside their regular working hours as needed.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience with expert knowledge in managing Microsoft and Apple OS’s in an enterprise environment. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Management Information Systems is preferred, but not required. As well as experience installing applications, patches, updates, and system drivers, hands on experience with Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager, Microsoft App-V 4.5/5, JAMF Cloud and knowledge and experience of testing methodologies. The Client Systems Engineer should also be an expert with current Microsoft client systems technologies (such as Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2012 (SCCM 2012) or Apple client systems technologies (such as JAMF’s Cloud), and have had on the job experience creating and managing images. Demonstrated ability to work in a highly collaborative manner with technical teams. A strong commitment to customer service and satisfaction. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. This individual needs to be a self motivated and excellent problem solver.
