Digital Production Coordinator

The Northeastern University Library is currently seeking a Digital Production Coordinator. As a member of the Library’s Resource and Discovery Services (RADS) department, this position works closely with the Archives & Special Collections, Scholarly Communication and Digital Repository units to support the growth and success of the library’s digitization and digital publishing programs. The Coordinator m¬¬anages a variety of projects, working both with born-digital objects and with physical materials (including archival collections), to produce high-quality digital objects and publications in a variety of formats.

Can you see yourself in this position?

Your focus in this vital position will be the organization and ongoing success of a professional digitization program for both print and media producing both access and preservation files. In support of the Library’s overall digital strategy, as Digital Production Coordinator you will lead efforts in two key areas:

•Digital Production. You will determine and implement local digitization guidelines for a variety of material types (text, image, unique archival materials, audio and video) according to industry best standards. Additionally, you will oversee the digitization of materials in all formats, in accordance with accepted standards, using both local equipment and off-site services as appropriate; establish digital production workflows and guidelines and perform quality assurance. You will work closely with metadata specialists to ensure appropriate data is captured and matched with digital objects and that best practices can be followed for metadata creation.

•Project Management. You will work with relevant departments/units to scope and prioritize digital projects; identify needed resources, and develop project plans. You will have opportunities to train and oversee student staff, and work with appropriate departments/units on quality control for ingest of files and associated metadata.



•Bachelor’s degree in information science, media studies, communications, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.

•Minimum 2 years experience working in a digital production environment, preferably in an archives, library or the publishing industry.

•Experience working with a variety of object types, both born-digital and digitized (text, photographs, audio and video, etc.).

•Demonstrated understanding of equipment used to digitize physical objects.

•Knowledge of recommended digital format standards for textual works, still images, audio and moving image works required.

•Familiarity with metadata schema used to describe digital objects, particularly expertise with preservation and technical metadata preferred.

•Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects with minimal supervision, to balance competing priorities, and to meet deadlines.

•Excellent oral and written skills to communicate with technical and non-technical individuals and to prepare project documentation to support training and best practices guidelines.

•Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work successfully in a collaborative environment.
