Provide academic advising to undergraduates within the College of Computer and Information Science. Provide interpretation and explanation of college and university degree policies and procedures. Teach multiple sections of Introduction to College course, collaborating closely with Director, Advising, Dean and other instructors in designing and implementing modifications of curriculum as needed. Monitor incoming advising emails, answering or triaging them as appropriate. Maintain organized and thorough records to track student progress. Provide assistance with course selection, registration and progress toward degree completion, including graduation clearance. Coordinate activities with other student support offices on campus, making referrals for students needing additional support. Be involved with various student service management activities within the College of Computer and Information Science. Become familiar with degree audits for CCIS degrees and provide advising regarding degree progress/completion. Assist with CCIS events, College Open Houses, Welcome Days, Phonathon, and New Student Orientations. Liaison with other assigned colleges and offices, such as combined major colleges, and the Registrar’s Office, to resolve issues.


Master’s degree preferred in counseling, human services or higher education (or equivalent experience advising in a college/university.) A minimum of 2 to 3 years related work experience required. Strong verbal and written communication skills and computer skills (Word and Excel) required, plus demonstrated counseling ability utilizing development theory to create a student-centered academic environment. Individual must demonstrate the ability to work effectively in teams, teach, take initiative, and organize effectively. Experience with academic advising, teaching, and coordinating student development programs. Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to work with precision and be able to keep calm under pressure. Person also must be able to empathize with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Presentation skills are required. Must possess ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, parents and university-wide administrators.
