The Division of Information Technology Services is currently seeking a talented individual to fill the role of Business Intelligence Developer. The Business Intelligence Developer will be a dedicated member of the Business Intelligence & Analytics team responsible for the implementation and ongoing development of the University’s Cognos Analytics (Cognos 11) business intelligence platform. In this role, the candidate will serve in both Cognos development and administrative capacities to build and maintain reporting and analytic applications and support continued growth of the University’s BI initiative.

We are seeking a dynamic individual who possesses demonstrated Cognos BI development and administration experience. The candidate will work closely with internal business leads and technical resources to design, develop and maintain Cognos framework and Transformer models; create and deploy reporting and analytic packages; as well as develop reporting content such as reports, dashboards, etc.

In addition to development activities, the candidate will provide assistance in the ongoing maintenance and administration of the Cognos application. Tasks include, but are not limited to user security management; software release management; end user and technical issue troubleshooting; system software upgrade planning; and Cognos portal design and organization.

To ensure that essential services are provided to the university community, the employee will be required to work outside his/her regular working hours and on some university holidays.


The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related area and a 5-8 years of experience administering multi-environment, enterprise Cognos 8/10 implementations. Candidate must also have a deep understanding of IBM Cognos 10 & Cognos Analytics (Cognos 11) Business Intelligence components and relationships to system configurations, proficiency with Cognos Administration, Framework Manager, and Transformer applications. IBM Cognos certifications preferred.

Significant experience with dimensionally modeled data warehouses in a SQL Server environment and a strong knowledge of data integration / warehousing methodologies. Candidate must also have experience with version control tools such as GitHub, ICS, and Cognos object migration techniques; experience designing, developing, and deploying Cognos Dynamic Cubes; and experience developing report extensions using Cognos SDK. Experience developing and administering budget planning applications within IBM Cognos TM1 is a plus. Experience working with self-service and data visualization tools such as Tableau, Qlik, PowerBI, and IBM Watson Analytics desired.

Must have strong project management and effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to articulate complex concepts in clear, brief, and easy to understand manner.

Maintain clear and open communications with project teams members and stakeholders.

Identify and escalate risks and issues with remediation recommendations.
Skilled in Microsoft tools such as Access, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint.
