Our fast-growing team (within the Enrollment Management and Student Life department) tackles the University’s digital transformation efforts and designs and develops extraordinary experiences to meet the rise of customer expectations in a world of intensifying global competition and accelerating technological change.

The team is comprised of 30+ staff, including designers, developers, copy writers, technologists, and project managers. Staff members are creative and diverse in all facets. Team members experiment and take risks, work on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, and take time to socialize and celebrate their successes. It is a fun, highly collaborative team that values each other’s work as much as we do each other’s personal interests.


Reporting to the Senior Director of Marketing Technology and Operations, the Director of Content Strategy is a content engineer that bridges the gaps between marketing strategy and development. The Director works to develop repeatable, systematic approaches to producing amazingly effective content—with a methodology that leads to content that performs well with customers and takes advantage of automation.

This role will work closely with enrollment marketing partners focused on editorial content strategy, directing with strong project management and collaboration skills to transform static content into a form that’s detailed, intelligent, structured and fluid for reuse. The content strategist will oversee a team and be in charge of creating and maintaining editorial calendars, style guides, taxonomies, metadata frameworks and content migration plans. The ideal candidate works to make sure technology and content are applied together so that marketing’s contribution to business results are maximized.

Key Responsibilities Include:
- Development and execution of the vision for Northeastern’s enrollment marketing back-end content strategy
- Application and stewardship of enrollment driving content strategy best practices across the department
- Management of professional staff responsible for content development and strategic campaign execution


• Bachelor’s degree and at least 10 years of experience required.
• Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of marketing technology and marketing automation is required
• Experience with digital analytics tools including: Google Analytics and/or Hotjar is required
• Experience with defining high level enterprise digital architectures and applying digital marketing and development best practices to support content strategy recommendations
• Proven experience with multiple aspects of content marketing, including: personas/profiles, buyer’s journey, SEO, social integration, email nurture, conversion optimization, paid promotions, tools, and metrics
• Experience developing and managing high-performing teams, driving collaboration and innovation among staff in a matrixed organization
• Commitment to work with shared leadership and in cross-functional, collaborative teams and the ability to lead through influence
• Strategic mindset paired with strong results orientation to achieve key business objectives
• Ability to thrive in high paced, complex environments and to operate independently and efficiently manage multiple tasks, priorities and projects
• Experience managing vendors and consultants
